we are unstoppable

Do you ever talk about fear? Things you’re afraid of? Or what your loved ones are afraid of? The subject of fear is often pushed away, as if the door should remain closed and never opened to reveal its truths. I want to discuss the possibility of embracing it, recognizing what fear can do for us, but not allowing it to overcome or lay us as victims.

I love teaching children yoga asana. It is one of the most fun and rewarding things I can do in this life, aside from raising my own sons, and we practice plenty of asana together. When I started teaching children’s yoga, it began for two reasons: one being that I didn’t feel like I was handling parenting well, and I knew I could do better. I turned to yoga as a guide, and what I learned has changed my parenting tactics forever. My children are better for it, our family is happier, and it shows in the smallest possible ways every day. Secondly, I thought if I could teach children, I would be able to confidently segway into teaching adult yoga classes. This would allow me to build a foundation of instruction within myself, be unafraid to stand in front of a large crowd, and make an impact.

Because teaching adults terrified me. It is one of the most intimidating things I have ever experienced, and I have taught adults many times in a variety of settings. Still, to this day, I sometimes am fearful and wary of my abilities. Anandji encouraged us not to hide our gifts from the world. We would not be living our truth or experiencing the highest form of our genuine Selves if we do not share what we know.

To remedy this, I began meditating with the manipura chakra in mind, chanting the bija sound (the seed sound), Ram. Focusing all of my energy on the solar plexus, a human’s source of personal power, strength, and confidence, I sit and silently repeat the sweet bija. This method of altering the state of mind will take time, but if there is something you’re afraid of, have faith that what seems like the smallest of efforts can be hugely impactful. Do not give up when there is something you fear. Rather, lean into it, acknowledge it, and possibly mold it into what serves you. Ram brings to life something within the Self that allows us to remember we are strong. We can do this. We may be afraid, but we will not allow this fear to deter us any longer. We are choosing to embrace and evolve. Fear will render us unstoppable.
